Chapter 16

Empty your mind of all thoughts

Let your heart be at peace

Watch the turmoil of beings,

But contemplate their return.

Contemplate ( think about) their return to what? To peace?

Each separate being in the universe

Returns to the common source.

Returning to the source is serenity.

Serenity is clam, peaceful and untroubled.

I sit here and can be peaceful but there are so many in the world around me that are wrapped up in aggression and hate. I hope they find their way back to happiness and calm.

If you don’t realize the source,

You stumble in confusion and sorrow.

When you realize where you come from,

You naturally become tolerant, disinterested, amused,

Kindhearted as a grandmother,

Dignified as a king.

tolerant, disinterested, amused, kindhearted and dignified

Tolerant – this is a good thing. I think more people need to be tolerant. I feel that I am pretty tolerant of other people.

Disinterested? I want to find things interesting. Maybe it means you don’t want /need to know about/or care about all the drama that others carry on about. I am very disinterested in knowing about that. When someone wants to tell me about all the drama – I do find myself wanting the conversation to end.

Amused – not sure about this. The definition of amused is pleasantly entertained in a light, playful or pleasant manner. Am suppose to find things entertaining or are other supposed to find me entertaining. I don’t think either is true of me.

Kindhearted – I feel like I have a kind heart. I try very hard not to hurt other people.

Dignified – not sure about this one either. Do I present myself worth of respect like a king. I certainly don’t present myself in a way that I should be disrespected.

Immersed in the wonders of the Tao,

You can deal with whatever life brings you,

And when death comes, you are ready.

Death- I still have a lot more that I want to do here. I am not ready for death. But I am at peace. I know that one day it will come. But I don’t have to be worried about it because right now is what is important, and right now I am trying to immerse myself with the wonders of the Tao.
